Spread of Christianity in the US. Will Deatherage
Yana Matviychuk: Are Americans religious?
Will Deatherage: Yeah, I believe that religion is really baked into American society. I think it’s been so important historically to be involved with your church, to be involved with your faith. And there is so many amazing people that have come out of this faith, who do fantastic things in this country.
When the United States was founded, it was done so with the idea that religions and spiritual people would be the moral and ethical backbone of all society. Without religion, without faith, you cannot have ethics or morality. And it is something that grows your community, improves your values, and inspires you to stand strong against oppression and tyranny. It is just such an important binding spiritual and social force. It’s very much embraced and alive here in America. That’s one of the reasons I’m grateful for our American values and desire to share them with other people across the world.
Matviychuk: Is it true that all Americans belong to some church or community?
Deatherage: A good amount of Americans certainly do. And there are a lot of countries where people are becoming less religious. However, in the United States, it’s still something that is very important to us. Even in public, you can see monuments, and writings that talk about the Bible and God. It’s a very important topic to us still today.
